The First São Paulo’s Public Agroforestry

Abstract

 This text reports the experience of an Agroforestry Workshop taught in 2015 by the author in the iconic Vila Itororó in São Paulo (Brazil). The workshop was included in the Project “Vila Itororó – Canteiro Aberto”, and resulted in the implementation of the first São Paulo’s Public Agroforestry. The experience was part of a complex, unprecedented socialcultural experiment in the city, which aimed to question the destination and use of urban public spaces, providing the population with the possibility to intervene and propose new uses for the future Cultural Center, parallel with the progress of the final architectural and restoration projects.

Gilberto Machel Veiga D'Angelis, Mestrando do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Agroecologia e Desenvolvimento Rural, PPGADR-UFSCAR

Mestre em Agroecologia e Desenvolvimento Rural pela UFSCAR e membro cofundador da ONG Kamuri, atua com povos indígenas, permacultura e sistemas agroflorestais há mais de 10 anos. Fundador da SinTrópicos - Consultoria Agroflorestal, especialista em agrofloresta urbana, ministrou cursos de agricultura sintrópica em contextos urbanos, rurais e outros, em SP, MS, RJ, PR e SC. Sua pesquisa de mestrado propõe a utilização de Sistemas Agroflorestais urbanos para a produção local e abundante de alimentos, e prestação de inúmeros serviços ecossistêmicos, como estratégia para a mitigação das mudanças climáticas e restauração ecológica das paisagens. Coordenou a implementação da Primeira Agrofloresta Pública de São Paulo (em 2015). Como membro do Coletivo PermaSampa (@permasampa), foi o responsável pela Coordenação Pedagógica da 10ª e última edição do curso de formação em permacultura (PDC) do Coletivo, em 2019. Em 2021 foi também o responsável pela Coordenação Pedagógica do Primeiro PDC online da Rede SESC, através do Sesc Jundiaí.
