Permaculture as a strategy for the recovery and resurgences of human and non-human landscapes in the age of climate mutations

Abstract

In this historiographical dialogue, I present the context, developments and propositions aiming to explain the emergence of Permaculture. I highlight the processes that constituted it as ecological design, including theories, technologies, systems, forms of communication, to regenerate human and non-human degraded landscapes. The 1970s is the backdrop for the first compass to guide us in this scenario marked by counterculture and environmental movements; new theories, epistemic, approaches and ontologies, political issues of class, race, gender, environment, sexuality, etc. The second compass explains how the foundations of Bill Mollison's idea were formed, based on the recovery of epistemological and ontological information from people, science and diverse institutions, with confluence of disciplines and knowledge. The third compass brings the forms and forces of permaculture, based on ethics and principles, until we arrive at the reflection of how much we need new compasses, in the context of mutations. Finally, in the fourth compass, the objective is to confirm the importance of permaculture as a “tool” for sociobiocultural transformation, an educational strategy to educate prosperous and regenerated communities and reveal how updates reinvents itself considering the New Climatic Regime.
